Laifang on the Way · Lecture 7
The Way Beyond Life and Death

死亡不是终点,而是转换;

Most people fear death because they see it as the end.
But those who walk the Way do not fear it—
for they understand:
to die for life is to die with meaning.
Death is not an end, but a transformation;
not disappearance, but a return.

Life and death are not absolute concepts.
They are relative and fluid—
two expressions of the Way unfolding in different stages.

Like spring and autumn,
day and night, the rise and fall of tides—
none is destruction,
but movement.

Longevity is not about remaining forever at a single moment,
but about transcending the opposition between life and death—
entering a state of continual flow and free return.

In the previous lecture, we said:
“Give me a fulcrum, and I may move the Earth—
perhaps even life and death.”

Today, we speak of how to use the Way as our fulcrum—
to shift how we understand death,
and perhaps cross its boundaries.

Many dismiss “immortality” as ancient fantasy—
the dream of alchemists, sages, and kings.
But those who truly understand the Way know:
to live long is real.

It does not mean to never die,
but to not perish from what shouldn’t kill us—
greed, anxiety, restlessness, and obsession.

Longevity is not about forcibly extending life with technology,
but restoring life to its natural rhythm—
like a tree that does not wither,
like water that flows without end.

If you ask me, “Can humans truly escape death?”
I would say: yes—
if you stop viewing life through the lens of death.

死亡,是对抗生命的方式;

Death resists life.
Longevity aligns with its source.

As long as you remain aligned with the Way,
your body, breath, and spirit can continually renew—
not by resisting death,
but through natural regeneration and a return to the essence.

Premier Zhou Enlai is, in my heart, the most profound practitioner of the Way.

He never spoke of longevity,
yet he truly walked a path that transcended life and death.

In his final years, though his body weakened and illness came,
his spirit never faltered.

He once said,
“I have no shame before the people.”
That was his answer to life—
and his response to death.

His body reached its limit,
but his Way did not.

他的名字,被亿万人轻轻呼唤;

His name is softly spoken by millions.
His spirit lives on in the bones and hearts of generations.

Premier Zhou Enlai’s life held two meanings:

First, he lived for long-term peace and stability.
Because of him and his generation’s sacrifices,
we today enjoy an era of peace—
where once again it becomes possible to ask:
Can true longevity still exist?

Second, his spirit lives on.
Though his body is gone,
his ideals, character, and peaceful vision
have become a living Way passed from generation to generation.

As a modern person,
I believe remembrance is not the end—
continuation is the beginning.

I wish to keep speaking of the Way of Longevity,
to make memory last longer,
time stretch wider—
to honor those who came before,
and to raise those who will come after—
to protect the longevity of peace,
and the longevity of life.

That will be a world
where humanity and heaven truly become one.

Laifang’s Note

To truly transcend life and death
is to recognize that they are relative and in motion—
not fearsome boundaries, but gateways of transformation.

Longevity is not myth,
but a state of living within the Way, attuned to heaven and earth.

You do not need to resist death.
You only need to become part of the Way.
Then your life will hold no fear,
and your presence will endure.
