The Power of the Way, and the Practice of Peace
A scholar once said:
“Conserve strength, but never cut corners;
save effort, but never the essence.”
真正的力量,是用得准;
This statement carries profound insight:
True strength is using it precisely;
holding the right direction;
advancing steadily toward the essence.
He acted with great measure—never wasting effort,
yet never careless.
Everything he did was thorough, thoughtful, and grounded in peace of mind.
Archimedes said,
“Give me a lever and a place to stand, and I can move the Earth.”
But the Way teaches us:
“Give me a still and unwavering heart,
I may change life and death.”
省力是一种洞悉本质后的准确;
This kind of strength is rooted in inner clarity and discernment.
To conserve strength is to act with precise insight.
To conserve effort is to use every movement in its rightful place.
This is the essence of the Way.
Peace, in truth, is an extension of this power.
Many believe peace comes from systems, treaties, or compromise—
but true peace is never just an external state;
it is a cultivation that begins within.
He who is at peace within
cannot be easily provoked, manipulated, or torn apart.
He learns to transform emotion into understanding,
hostility into respect,
and replaces external conflict with internal steadiness.
True peace is an awakening of the heart,
a living expression of the Way.
It is not some distant ideal,
but a choice available right now—
when you are willing to pause, step aside, listen, observe—
peace begins in that very breath.
Premier Zhou Enlai was a living example of this path of peace.
He never sought respect through force,
but used gentleness to temper power, and stillness to direct change.
He used the fewest words to resolve the most complex disputes,
the most humble posture to win the broadest respect.
He never led through loudness—
but the Way flowed constantly through him.
It was a power that drew no attention, yet it reshaped the world—
the spirit of “conserving strength without reducing effort,”
a fulcrum on which history itself was turned.
This is how I understand the power of the Way—
and the way of peace I wish to share with you.
Laifang’s Note
是对世界最深的尊重;
To conserve strength without losing substance
is the deepest form of respect for the world.
To take no more than needed, and never abandon what matters,
is a wisdom that travels through time.
Give me a fulcrum—
I do not only wish to move the Earth.
I wish to move a lost heart,
and help it see again the direction of peace.
