The Way of Release

The Way of Release:
Untying the Bonds,
Walking into Freedom

I. The Principle of Release: Nature’s Rhythm

水离开山,汇成江海;

Yin and yang give birth to each other,
the sun and moon trade places,
tides rise and fall — all are the rhythms of Release.

Release is the movement of energy.
Water leaves the mountain to become rivers and seas;
clouds leave the sea to return as rain.

Release transfers energy,
allowing the world to circulate endlessly.

Mary, the grand-daughter of President Roosevelt, releases a dove of peace into the California sky above the Nixon Library. In honor of unity between China and America.

Departure is really a new beginning—
a pause in emotion, a space to release in relationships,
a flow that allows the Tao to move through life.
From the moment you were born,
you separated from the womb and began your own path.

II. The Logic of Li: Release and Fulfillment

花落,是为了土壤的肥沃;

It takes courage to release.
To understand Release is to understand
how to leave space for the world.

Petals fall to enrich the soil;
leaves drift down to make way for new shoots.

Departure is the opening of a path
for new relationships and new things.

Only when there is space to part
does reunion gain meaning.

Only when there is release
can the world continue to grow abundant.

III. Li and He: The Dao of Mutual Birth

离得安然,才能在重逢时坦然;

四季更迭,是离与合的轮回;
离,是一种流动;
离,是为了更深的合;

Separation and Union
are two sides of the one Tao.

When you separate with peace, you can reunite with ease.
When you unite with grace, you can part without fear.

The seasons turning are cycles of Separation and Union;
the meetings and partings of life are the practice of renewal.

Separation is outward flow;
Union is a return flow.

Separation allows a deeper union;
union becomes the seed for the next parting.

IV. The Premier’s Departure, His Spirit Endures

出生时离开生母,为亲人延续生命;
儿时又离开家乡,为中华崛起读书;
青年时离开祖国,邃密群科济世穷;
他离身投向革命,为人民鞠躬尽瘁;

他的声音,留在一封封信里;
他的身影,留在一张张图里;

Premier Zhou Enlai departed from us.
On that day, an entire nation grieved,
and the world fell into mourning.
People stood in silence on the streets,
at radios, in public squares, in schools—
silent, sorrowful, filled with remembrance
and wordless respect.

His life was marked by more partings than reunions.
At birth, he left his mother to preserve the life of his kin.
As a child, he left his hometown to study for the rise of China.
As a young man, he left his homeland,
seeking “all fields of knowledge to serve the world.”

He left behind comfort, throwing himself into revolution,
and devoted his entire being to the people.
In the end, he left this world —
yet left behind an eternal spirit.

His parting was a wound in history,
and an awakening for a nation.
Because of his departure,
millions began to ask anew:

“For whom do I live? For what do I strive?”
Because of his departure,
words like peace, devotion, and selflessness
took on their clearest, truest forms.

He left, yet he has never truly left.
His voice lingers in his letters;
his image endures in photographs;
his spirit lives in the hearts of generations.

Through his “leaving,” he taught us this:
True departure is return—
a return to the memory of the people,
a return to the soul of the nation,
a return to the endless current of the Tao.

V. The Way of Li: Returning to Nature, Moving Toward Wholeness

让我们在告别中,学会珍惜;

离的终极,是合;

Leaving is the order of nature,
allowing life to keep moving forward.
Departure is the pause in emotion,
teaching us to cherish through farewell.
Departure is the transformation of energy,
teaching us renewal through letting go.

The ultimate end of separation is union;
within the depth of union lies separation again.
This is the rhythm of the Tao.

To part in peace, to gather with ease,
to unite with grace — this is the breadth of life,
and the harmony between the heart and the Tao.
